Eli Adam Stibbe

Eli Adam Stibbe was born Tuesday night, 10/09/12 at 11:15pm. He weighed 7lbs, 13oz, and was 20″ long. And PERFECT!

We had quite the Tuesday… Eli, we tried. And tried hard. But you were just not going to come into this world the “normal” way.

Your birth story…

I got checked in right at 7am and the OB/GYN resident checked my cervix to see if I was dilated and could break my water. As I kind of mentioned before, my cervix was incredibly posterior, meaning way high and the opening at the completely opposite end from Eli’s little head. As the resident said, she was basically in my throat– not a comfortable experience to say the least.

At that point, it was necessary to start pitocin if we wanted even a chance of delivering vaginally. The cervix had to dilate so we could break my water, and that wouldn’t happen without contractions, which wouldn’t happen without pitocin. Make sense?

Dr. Evans gave orders for the safest amount of pitocin possible for a VBAC.

Long story short… I did not progress past 3cm for 10hrs. Even after they finally broke my water. And I started off at 2.5cm. For both our safety, csection was the mutual decision at 10:30pm. (Don’t want to forget the part where my epidural stopped working. TWICE)

At 11:15 little Eli was here!! Being awake while he was born was incredible. I heard his tiny cries, saw that smushed-up face… And melted.

He is a fantastic sleeper and a great nurser.

We came home from the hospital around 3:45pm yesterday and he entered our world of Crazy! S & J are being SO GOOD! Love those kids.

Thank you to my mom and Adam’s parents for being here and watching the twins for us. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful family. (My poor dad was out of town and felt horrible not being here. He’ll come in a few days!)

I have been overwhelmed by the kindness of people on Facebook and all the emails. Also, I “tweeted” from the beginning of Tuesday, so here is that link. It was a fun way to keep everyone updated!

And PS — I am totally outnumbered 😉 And LOVE IT.
