Grandparents to the Rescue!

This weekend, Adam’s parents visited and helped us take care of the boys. Get this… we even went on a date night! We went to Rivera’s and it was delicious. Even better, it was only a 5-minute drive from our house. Let’s just say after a month of having less than 5 hours of sleep a piece, dealing with medicines several times a day for both boys, dealing with one child who is still having issues eating, not being able to take the boys anywhere… we needed this. Fred and Peggy were able to get a small glimpse into our world!

They also came bearing gifts! Peggy and her friends made us a bunch of freezer-friendly dishes like lasagna, hamburger hot-dish, and enchiladas. Huge thank you!

We actually had a busy week of family and friends! Adam’s Aunt Jody and Uncle Rick passed through Omaha on Thursday night on their way to Texas to see their son Brooks. Friday night my friends Chris and Rachel came over to hang out with the boys and me for a bit. Had a great time both nights!

I go back to work on March 7th… Let’s just say I would rather have both my legs broken again than leave my boys. However, we do have the help of our wonderful families. Between Adam’s parents and my parents, plus a little time off work for me, we have March 7th-April 22nd (when Adam is done with rotations) covered! At least when we leave them every morning, it won’t be at daycare. They get to play with Grandma and Grandpa every day!

favorite things
Luv U Zoo SpaceSaver Swing & Seat. Jack is obsessed. We have awesome bouncys, and Sam still loves his. Jack… needed a little more stimulation. He is a wild man, so we bit the bucket and bought him this swing. It has five different speeds (ours is obviously set to the fastest), has music, and also doubles as a vibrating seat.

twin tip of the day
Our boys have to have breastmilk fortified with formula specially designed for preemies. Typical breast milk is 20 calories per ounce, and we fortify Jack to 22 calories and Sam to 26 calories. Well, we were having some issues with “clumping.” We tried the blender, the food processor, everything. Then one night when Adam came home from the gym and got out his protein shake maker, I had a brilliant idea… mix the formula in one of those! And yes… I was right 🙂

So if you plan to formula feed your baby and/or need to supplement with formula like we do, try one of these: BlenderBottle

I agree with you Trisha! Your little Sam peanut is adorable as is his brother! Glad you and Adam were able to have some time together. Keeping my fingers crossed for March 17 for you. 🙂

Is it OK to admit I am a wee bit jealous of everyone getting to spend time with Sam and Jack? It looks like Grandma Peggy was having a lot of fun.

I can’t wait for my week to babysit. I miss my little buddies.

Your boys are adorable! I’m so glad I ran across your blog. I love reading the stories of other preemies, since I have a 6 month old born at just 29 weeks. Your little ones are truly amazing!
