After 99 days in the NICU, Sam Michael Stibbe came HOME!!
Words can’t begin to express how happy and excited, nervous and anxious, Adam and I are. No more super expensive babysitters (thank you NICU staff 🙂 ), no more monitors, but best of all… no more cords tying our little boy to his crib!
Jack and Sam both slept soundly on the car ride home, with Adam and I constantly looking in the back seat to check on them.
Our little guy has been through SO MUCH. So much. And now he’s home. Unfortunately, he still needs to be supplemented with NG tube feeds (tube in his nose to stomach), but that’s fine with us. The nurses showed us how to insert the tube and “gravity” in the remaining milk. He takes 50cc of milk (just under 2oz) every 3 hours. So, if he takes all 50, we don’t do anything except dance around the living room and high five each other. If he doesn’t take it all though, we put the rest down the tube. We want the little guy to gain weight! Yesterday he did amazing, and so far today he has done amazing as well. He’s taken 3 whole bottles, 3 almost whole bottles, and only a couple “halfsies.”
The one down side is that Adam had to leave for Los Angeles yesterday afternoon and won’t get back until tomorrow evening 😦 . Horrible timing! He has to take his Step 2 CS (I know that’s what it’s called, don’t ask me what he does) and it’s only offered in four places in the country. He signed up over 6 months ago with some of his friends, so it’s not like he could reschedule. Oh well!
One of my best friends, Shelly, offered to stay with me while Adam is gone. Can’t thank her enough!!! She got up with the boys and me at 3:00 and 6:00 this morning even. She brought over wine, bagels, stuff to do nails, and facial masks. = Happy Mommy~! 🙂 She is great with them, and we are so lucky to have her.
Here are some pictures of Sam’s big day! And they have the most adorable car seats known to mankind-thank you Grandma and Grandpa Stibbe! “Cowmooflage” car seats. If you watched “Bethenny Getting Married” on Bravo, you will recognize these 🙂
